Regional Council Building- Addition & Renovations

By: Lee Manges - Senior Managing Director / News

We would like to take this opportunity to update our Local Brothers and Sisters about the progress on our Council building construction project and give you an overview and some details about the project.

Progress on the building construction is moving along quickly and we are in the final stages of construction. Rycon Construction is the General Contractor for the project and they have been on site since August, 2019. Completion should be around the end of October or early November of this year. We have had multiple carpentry sub-contractors on site during the construction employing our Union Brothers and Sisters.

Rycon self-performed a large portion of the carpentry work, including the framing, drywall, and ceilings, and self-performed all the concrete work. Douglass Pile did all the micro piles and caissons. Specified Systems installed the curtain wall system, architectural glass walls and doors in the offices, and performed all glass and glazing. Specified completed all this work with Carpenters and no other Trades. Bryan Construction did all the wood timber framing and decking using a Glu-Lam system. This system allowed us to use exposed wood beams and keep an open floor plan with no columns in the middle of the meeting room area. Easley and Rivers installed the folding partitions and the electric shades in the new meeting room. J&K Doors & Hardware hung all the doors and installed the door hardware. Paramount Flooring installed all the carpet and flooring. Kalkreuth Roofing installed the new roof on the addition. Giffin Interior supplied and installed all the casework, wood panels, and wood trim. The furniture and office partitions were split into multiple packages and were installed by J.C. Schultz, Marucci Interiors, Easley and Rivers, and Partition Systems. As you can see, there were many Carpenter man hours generated from this project for our members. In addition, all the other sub-contractors on site for all Trades have been Union contractors.

With the completion of the new 4,000 square foot meeting room we will be able to seat 400 people, with overflow seating, if necessary, in a conference room adjacent to the meeting room. The new meeting room and smaller conference room will be equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system, projection equipment, tv monitors, and a large projection screen. The entire building has been renovated with renovations being completed in the Council Rep. and Team Room areas, Executive Offices and Accounting Dept., and the 3rd floor area for Carpenters Combined Funds. We have also added new restrooms throughout the entire building and added a warming kitchen for the caterer to provide meals for scheduled events. There has also been extensive work done on the outside of the building with new paint on the entire building and new concrete sidewalks and driveway.

We plan to have a ribbon cutting and Open House for the January, 2021 Council Delegate meeting. Local #432 is planning to start having their monthly Local meetings in the new meeting room starting in January, 2021. The newly renovated space and new meeting room will be a great asset for our Council and something we can all be proud of.
